2 Load a tape.
Push PUSH Z OPEN/CLOSE to open the deck.
Load a tape into the deck with the side you want to play back facing forward.
Basic Operations
2 Turn MASTER VOLUME
counterclockwise (or press VOLUME on the remote) to turn down the volume.
Push PUSH Z OPEN/CLOSE again to close the deck.
3 To listen to TV or VCR, press
VIDEO (or FUNCTION on the remote repeatedly to select "VIDEO"). To listen to portable audio player, press AUDIO (or FUNCTION on the remote repeatedly to select "AUDIO").
3 Press NX (or N on the
remote). The tape starts playing.

Adjusting the sound
To add a sound effect

MATRIX SURROUND 1
Reproduces a wide range of sound that can actually sense the size of the room. "MATRIX SUR 1" lights up in the display.
MATRIX SURROUND 2
Reinforce the bass and create a more powerful sound
Press GROOVE repeatedly until "GROOVE"* or "Z-GROOVE"* lights up in the display.
Set the surround (MHC-GTX787/ effect MHC-GTX777/ LBT-ZTX7 only) Press SURROUND repeatedly until "SURROUND" lights up in the display. Select the preset Press PRESET EQ sound effect (or EQ on the remote) repeatedly. To cancel, press PRESET EQ (or EQ on the remote) repeatedly to select "FLAT".
* The volume switches to power mode and the equalizer curve changes.

Enhancing the sound quality
You can enhance the sound quality by using the MP3 BOOSTER+ function.
1 Press OPTIONS. 2 Turn OPERATION DIAL to select
"MP3 BOOSTER+", then press ENTER.
3 Turn OPERATION DIAL to select
"AUTO", then press ENTER. To exit the OPTIONS menu, press OPTIONS.
Note
When an audio file is played back, the MP3 BOOSTER+ function is automatically activated if you have set "MP3 BOOSTER+" to "AUTO". "BOOSTER" lights up in the display.
Selecting the sound system
(MHC-GTX888 only) You can enjoy different sounds by selecting the sound mode you want. Press SURROUND SPEAKER MODE repeatedly.
LINK
Reproduces the same sound with different output levels. "LINK" lights up in the display.

Creating a party atmosphere

You can create a party atmosphere by using X-TRANCE.
To Do this
Changing the display 1 Press OPTIONS. 2 Turn OPERATION DIAL to select
the item you want, then press ENTER The last selected item setting appears in the display.

Flash the sound output (The sound cuts off periodically) Change the sound flash speed (1~20) Create a deep flanging effect that is similar to the roar of a jet plane Create a "live" sound with full characteristic reverb effect Create a slow and deep chorus effect Notes
Hold down SOUND FLASH during playback. Press FLANGER repeatedly to select "FLANGER ON".
Change the illumination pattern around MASTER VOLUME.
METER BACKLIGHT
Change the meter backlight pattern.
METER POINTER
Change the meter pointer pattern.
DISPLAY
Change the front panel display pattern.
Press DELAY repeatedly to select "DELAY ON".
3 Turn OPERATION DIAL to select
the setting you want.
Press CHORUS repeatedly to select "CHORUS ON".
4 Press ENTER. 5 Repeat steps 2 to 4 to make
other settings.
· The FLANGER, DELAY or CHORUS sound effect is automatically turned off when you: turn off the system. · If you activate FLANGER, DELAY or CHORUS during recording/transferring, the sound effect will be recorded onto the tape or transferred onto the USB device. However, these sound effect will not be transferred onto the USB device during CD function.
To exit the OPTIONS menu
Press OPTIONS again.

Changing the display mode
Press DISPLAY repeatedly while the system is turned off. You can select the following display mode.

Checking the elapsed playing time, remaining time and titles
Press DISPLAY repeatedly during playback. The following information appears in the display.
When playing an AUDIO CD:
The display changes and the indicators flash even when the system is turned off.
No display (Power Saving Mode)*
The display is turned off to conserve power. The timer and clock continue to operate.
Clock
The clock is displayed. The clock display automatically turns to Power Save Mode after a few seconds.
