This operation can also be used after recalling a preset code to program additional operations not covered in the preset codes. This could let you, for example, use the remote control to set up and listen to a CD on the receiver and then use the remote control to rewind a tape in your VCR while you continue to listen to your CD player. When the DIRECT function is ON any MULTI CONTROL button you press will change the function of both the receiver and the remote control. When you turn the DIRECT function OFF, you can operate the remote control without affecting the receiver. Thus you could switch the remote control the VCR and operate that component while the receiver plays a different component. For example, if you don't have a second TV, but you do have a second VCR, you could reassign the TV Multi Control to VCR so that VCR control buttons are available when you select TV.
