Please read through these operating instructions so you will know how to operate your model properly. MODE CLEAR DTV INFO RECEIVER DIRECT CONTROL MIDNIGHT DSP STEREO FUNCTION 2 Select a TEST TONE mode. 1 Press 5/ (or the MULTI JOG dial) to move the cursor to AUTO or MANUAL. AUTO (automatic TEST TONE) This mode switches the test tone between each speaker automatically. The test tone is output in the following order: FL SW CT SL FR SR THX ADVANCED STANDARD MUTE 2 / DTS Î AV PRE-PROGRAMMED AND LEARNING REMOTE CONTROL UNIT RETURN MANUAL (manual TEST TONE) This mode lets you switch the test tone between each speaker manually. You can use this mode when you want to balance the speaker levels at a more leisurely pace. MULTI JOG (Turn to select / Push to enter) 3 After pressing ENTER it will take a moment for the volume to get to the reference position (0 dB) and the TEST TONE will be output. (This display appears when you choose Auto test mode. ) 34 Initial Setup SOURCE RECEIVER 4 Adjust speaker levels so that you hear the test tone at the same volume from each speaker when seated in your main listening position. In AUTO mode The receiver will automatically cycle through the speakers emitting a test tone from each one. It will continue to do this until you press ENTER to signify you have finished your adjustments. If you are using a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) meter Take the readings from your main listening position and adjust the level of each speaker to 75 dB SPL (C-weighted/slow mode). SET UP RETURN S. MODE CLEAR DTV INFO RECEIVER DIRECT CONTROL MIDNIGHT DSP STEREO FUNCTION THX ADVANCED STANDARD MUTE 2 / DTS Î AV PRE-PROGRAMMED AND LEARNING REMOTE CONTROL UNIT 5 When you have adjusted each speaker level and entered the information "Ch Level End" will be selected. Press ENTER . It will again take a moment as the MASTER VOLUME returns to its original position. 6 Press ENTER again to return to go to the "Crossover" settings. memo Note that it is also possible to set channel levels temporarily. This function is designed to be used when you want to change the levels temporarily to raise the level of one channel. Using this method you can set speaker levels in different modes, such as, STEREO, and each DSP mode, independently. Doing the set up procedures on this page will erase any temporary/independent level settings that have been made. Next, proceed to Crossover Network on the next page. If you want to change a setting before proceeding use the 5/ buttons (or the MULTI JOG dial) to go back. 35 Initial Setup Crossover Network The following steps show you how to adjust the crossover network. The crossover network is the frequency at which the system divides the signal and sends the different parts (high, mid, low) to different speakers. Speaking precisely, this setting sets the cutoff point for the bass frequencies rerouted from your SMALL speakers to your subwoofer or speaker set to LARGE. If starting fresh, complete steps 1-3 in "Setting Up for Surround Sound" (p. 27) first. Setting speakers to SMALL in "Speaker Setting" sends the respective channel's bass frequencies to the subwoofer (or LARGE speakers). The present function lets you determine which frequencies will be sent to the subwoofer or LARGE speakers. 1 Use the 5/ buttons (or the MULTI JOG dial) to select 80 Hz, 100 Hz, or 150 Hz. 80Hz ¶ ! / RDM RETURN S. MODE CLEAR DTV INFO RECEIVER DIRECT CONTROL MIDNIGHT DSP STEREO FUNCTION THX ADVANCED STANDARD MUTE 2 / DTS Î AV PRE-PROGRAMMED AND LEARNING REMOTE CONTROL UNIT RETURN Sends bass frequencies below 80 Hz to the subwoofer (or LARGE speakers).
