be sure to read “(Important) About the Waterproof/Dustproof and Anti-shock Performance of the Camera” (P8) before using this unit underwater to prevent the unit from being mishandled, which may cause water to seep in. Before Use Care of the camera ∫ Handling of the camera (to prevent water leakage and malfunction) • Foreign objects may adhere to the inner side of the side door (around the rubber seal or connecting terminals) when the side door is opened or closed in places with sand or dust etc. This may result in the impairment of the waterproof performance if the side door is closed with foreign objects adhered. • If any foreign object is adhered to the inner side of the side door, remove with the supplied brush. [. . . ] Applicable modes: [A] [›] · ¿ Fine (when giving priority to the picture quality) Standard (when using the standard picture quality and increasing the number of pictures to be recorded without changing the number of pixels) Note • The setting is fixed to [›] in [Transform], [Handheld Night Shot], [High Sens. ], • The following icons are displayed during the 3D recording. Setting to a higher number enables pictures to be taken even in dark places without the resulting pictures coming out dark. Applicable modes: · [AUTO]/[ ]/[100]/[200]/[400]/[800]/[1600] [100] Recording location (recommended) Shutter speed Noise When it is light (outdoors) Slow Less Increased Settings The ISO sensitivity is automatically adjusted according to the brightness. The ISO sensitivity is adjusted according to the movement of the subject and the brightness. [1600] When it is dark Fast Increased Less Jitter of the subject ISO sensitivity AUTO maximum [400] (With the flash on [1600]) maximum [1600] (Intelligent) 100/200/400/800/1600 ∫ About [ ] (Intelligent ISO sensitivity control) The camera detects movement of the subject and then automatically sets the optimum ISO sensitivity and shutter speed to suit the movement of the subject and brightness of the scene to minimise the jitter of the subject. • The shutter speed is not fixed when the shutter button is pressed halfway. It is continuously changing to match the movement of the subject until the shutter button is pressed fully. Note • For the focus range of flash when [AUTO] is set, refer to P60. – In [Baby1]/[Baby2], [Pet] and [Flash Burst] in Scene Mode – [Sports] • The setting is fixed to [AUTO] when recording motion pictures. - 100 - Recording [White Balance] For details on [Rec] Mode menu settings, refer to P44. In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the colour of white takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the colour of white which is closest to what is seen by the eye in accordance with the light source. Applicable modes: · [AWB] [V] [Ð] [î] [Ñ] [Ò] ¿ Automatic adjustment When taking pictures outdoors under a clear sky When taking pictures outdoors under a cloudy sky When taking pictures outdoors in the shade When taking pictures under incandescent lights Value set by using [Ó] [Ó] Set manually Note • The optimal White Balance will differ depending on the type of fluorescent lamp being recorded • The White Balance setting is memorised even if the camera is turned off. (However, the White • White balance is fixed to [AWB] in following conditions: – [Snow] – [Beach & Snorkeling] – [Underwater] – In [Scenery], [Night Portrait], [Night Scenery], [Handheld Night Shot], [Food], [Party], Balance setting for a Scene Mode returns to [AWB] when the Scene Mode is changed. ) under so use [AWB] or [Ó]. [Candle Light], [Sunset], [Flash Burst], [Starry Sky], [Fireworks], [Aerial Photo] or [Film Grain] in Scene Mode ∫ Auto White Balance Depending on the conditions when pictures are taken, the pictures may take on a reddish or bluish tinge. Furthermore, when a multiple number of light sources are being used or there is nothing with a colour close to white, Auto White Balance may not function properly. 2 Blue sky 3 Cloudy sky (Rain) 4 Shade 5 Sunlight 6 White fluorescent light 7 Incandescent light bulb 8 Sunrise and sunset 9 Candlelight KlKelvin colour temperature - 101 - Recording Setting the White Balance manually Set the White Balance value. so that the frame in the centre is filled by the white object only and then press [MENU/SET]. • If the subject is overly bright or overly dark, you may not be able to set the White Balance. If this is the case, adjust to an appropriate brightness and then set the White Balance again. • Exit the menu after it is set. Finely adjusting the White Balance You can finely adjust the White Balance when you cannot acquire the desired hue by setting the White Balance. • Fine adjustment is possible only when the White Balance is set to [V]/[Ð]/[î]/[Ñ]/[Ò]. 1 Select the White Balance to finely adjust and then press [DISP. ] to display [WB Adjust. ]. Press [MENU/SET] to finish. 3 Note • The White Balance icon on the screen turns red or blue. • You can finely adjust the White Balance independently for each White Balance item. [. . . ] • When using the camera in a place with sand or dust, some parts of the camera may become hard to move with foreign objects getting in the gap of the zoom button, or the camera [OFF/ ON] button. Either clean with the supplied brush or wash off with fresh water. The camera makes a rattling sound or you can feel some vibration. • Below cases are not malfunctions, so you can use the camera as normal. > You hear a "rattling" sound when the camera is shaken while the power is off or during Playback Mode. (Sound of lens moving) > When power is turned on or off, or when switching from recording to Playback Mode, there is a rattling noise (this is the sound of the lens moving). [. . . ]
