. . . . . . 168 -4- Before Use Please be sure to read "(Important) About the Waterproof/Dustproof and Anti-shock Performance of the Camera" (P8) before using this unit underwater to prevent the unit from being mishandled, which may cause water to seep in. Before Use Care of the camera Handling of the camera (to prevent water leakage and malfunction) Foreign objects may adhere to the inner side of the side door (around the rubber seal or connecting terminals) when the side door is opened or closed in places with sand or dust, etc. This may result in the impairment of the waterproof performance if the side door is closed with foreign objects adhered. Settings [STANDARD] [Happy]1 [VIVID]2 [B&W] [SEPIA] Description of settings This is the standard setting. The picture becomes sepia. 1 This can be set only when Intelligent Auto Mode is set. 2 This can be set only during Programme AE Mode or Manual Exposure Mode. [AF Assist Lamp] Applicable modes: AF assist lamp will illuminate the subject when the shutter button is pressed half-way making it easier for the camera to focus when recording in low light conditions. (Larger AF area is displayed depending on the recording conditions. ) Settings: [ON]/[OFF] Note The effective distance of the AF Assist Lamp is a maximum of When you do not want to use the AF Assist Lamp A (e. g. pictures of animals in dark places), set the [AF Assist Lamp] to [OFF]. [AF Assist Lamp] is fixed to [OFF] in [Scenery], [Night Scenery], [Handheld Night Shot], [Sunset] and [Glass Through] in Scene Mode. - 108 - Recording [Red-Eye Removal] Applicable modes: When Red-Eye Reduction ([ ], [ ]) is selected, Digital Red-Eye Correction is performed whenever the flash is used. Settings: [ON]/[OFF] Note Only available when [AF Mode] is set to [s] and Face Detection is active. Under certain circumstances, red-eye cannot be corrected. [Stabilizer] Applicable modes: Using this mode, jitter during picture taking is detected, and the camera automatically compensates for the jitter, enabling jitter-free images to be taken. When recording motion pictures, "Active Mode" (stabiliser for motion pictures) will automatically function. This decreases the jitter of the image when recording motion pictures while walking, etc. Settings: [ON]/[OFF] Note Stabiliser is fixed to [OFF] in [Panorama Shot] in Scene Mode. During motion picture recording, this setting is fixed to [ON] and "Active Mode" works. In "Active Mode", stronger effect of the correction can be achieved at the wide end. The stabiliser function may not be effective in the following cases. Note that "Active Mode" does not work when [Rec Quality] is set to [VGA] in [MP4]. Be careful of camera jitter when you press the shutter button. When the shutter speed becomes slower to take pictures indoors or in dark places. - 109 - Recording [Date Stamp] Applicable modes: You can take a picture with date and time of recording. Settings Description of settings Stamp the year, month, and day. -- [W/O TIME] [WITH TIME] [OFF] Note Date information for pictures recorded with the [Date Stamp] set cannot be deleted. When printing pictures with [Date Stamp] at a shop or with a printer, the date will be If the time has not been set, you cannot stamp with the date information. [. . . ] If the camera is used in cold places such as ski resorts or places at high altitude with the snow or water droplets adhered to the camera, some parts of the camera may become hard to move with snow or water droplets freezing in the gap of the zoom button or the camera [ON/OFF] button. When the camera returns to normal temperature it will function as normal. When using the camera in a place with sand or dust, some parts of the camera may become hard to move with foreign objects getting in the gap of the zoom button, or the camera [ON/ OFF] button. Either clean with the supplied brush or wash off with fresh water. The camera makes a rattling sound or you can feel some vibration. [. . . ]
