MIDDLE POSITION (NORMAL USE) 3 1 Move vacuum cleaner to upright position for storage and tool use. MC-UL424: Release the handle by placing foot on the nozzle and pulling back and down on the handle with your hand. MC-UL426: Release the handle by pressing down on the body release pedal with your foot and pulling back and down on the handle with your hand. Move vacuum cleaner to middle position for normal use. LOW POSITION (UNDER FURNITURE USE) 4 1 5 1 MC-UL424: Release the handle by placing foot on the nozzle and pulling back and down on the handle with your hand. MC-UL426: Release the handle by pressing down on the body release pedal with your foot and pulling back and down on the handle with your hand. Move vacuum cleaner to low position for cleaning under furniture. MC-UL426 ONLY: 6 1 This model is fitted with an auto beater bar stop. While operating the vacuum cleaner in the CARPET position, the beater bar will automatically stop rotating when vacuum cleaner is in the upright (locked) position for storage or tool use. Beater Bar: AUTO OFF Beater Bar: AUTO ON -8- D) CARPET/BARE FLOOR SELECTOR 1 2 1 Carpet/Bare Floor Selector Carpet/Bare Floor Selector MC-UL424 MC-UL424 MC-UL426 MC-UL426 Use foot to move pedal to CARPET or BARE FLOOR (TOOLS) position. Selector should be placed in BARE FLOOR (TOOLS) position when using vacuum cleaner on bare floors and when using tools. Selector should be placed in CARPET position when using vacuum cleaner on carpeted floors. CAUTION Incorrect setting may cause floor or carpet damage. MC-UL424: 3 1 MC-UL426: 3 1 Use the vaccum with selector in CARPET position when cleaning carpets. 4 1 Use the vaccum with selector in CARPET position when cleaning carpets. 4 1 Use the vaccum with selector in BARE FLOOR position to clean on bare floors and when using attachments. For best performace it is recommended to use the bonus brush WHEN CLEANING BARE FLOORS. Connect wand and bonus wand to hose (See HANDLE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY, page 5). Insert the two tabs on the end of the extension hose into the two “J” shaped slots on the unit hose and twist to connect. The crevice tool, dusting brush, and floor brush can also be attached to the bonus hose or bonus wand. It is recommended when vacuuming stairs to use the crevice tool, dusting brush, or air turbine. To prevent tipping, make sure vaccum is below you and resting against the bottom step or wall. Attach bonus wand and bonus hose for additional reach if needed. - 11 - PERFORMANCE FEATURES A) EDGE CLEANING 1 2 1 Edge cleaning feature enables improved cleaning of carpets near walls and furniture. MC-UL424 B) AUTOMATIC ADJUSTING NOZZLE 1 MC-UL426 Nozzle Deep Pile Carpet The nozzle of your Panasonic vacuum cleaner automatically adjusts to any carpet pile height. No manual adjustments required. Shallow Pile Carpet Pivot Point C) OVERLOAD PROTECTION (MC-UL426 ONLY) 1 2 1 OVERLOAD PROTECTION RESET button The OVERLOAD PROTECTION RESET button stops the nozzle motor when the beater bar jams to prevent belt breakage. NOTE: The vacuum cleaner motor will continue to run. TO CORRECT PROBLEM: Unplug mains lead. DO NOT install damp. TO REPLACE FILTER: Place the primary filter into the dust bin lid. Reinstall the dust bin into the vacuum cleaner (See EMPTYING DUST BIN, page 14). D) HEPA MEDIA EXHAUST FILTER REPLACEMENT The exhaust filter removes dirt from exhaust air. Check the exhaust filter when emptying dust bin and replace when dirty. The exhaust filter cannot be cleaned and should be replaced at least once each year. Refer to VACUUM CLEANER CONSUMABLES/ACCESSORIES (page 24) for part number. 1 2 1 3 1 Exhaust Filter w Flo Air Tab Slot Air Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Press latch to remove exhaust filter cover. Grasp the exhaust filter and pull out to remove. Place the new exhaust filter into the vacuum cleaner with the AIRFLOW arrow pointing upwards. - 16 - Flo w Reinstall the exhaust filter cover by inserting the tab into the slot in the vacuum cleaner. Press firmly to snap exhaust filter cover into place. E) BELT REPLACEMENT (MC-UL424) Replace belt whenever beater bar stops turning or a burning rubber smell caused by excessive slippage occurs. Refer to VACUUM CLEANER CONSUMABLES/ACCESSORIES (page 24) for part number. 1 Nozzle Hose 2 1 Four (4) Screws 3 1 3 2 Locking Tab 1 Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Remove nozzle hose from body by (1) pressing in locking tab and (2) sliding up and (3) out of retaining slot. 1 4 Always place paper under nozzle whenever lower plate is removed to protect floor. Remove the four screws from the lower plate. Place the vacuum cleaner in the upright position standing on the handle. [. . . ] Refer to BYPASS VALVE (page 13) and CLOG REMOVAL (page 19). Poor job of dirt pick-up. 1. Dirty pre-filter, primary filter and/or exhaust filter. Beater bar does not turn. 1. Tripped overload protector in nozzle (MC-UL426 only). Sound changes. 1.
