C Garmin G600 Pilot's Guide 4-7 4. 2. 2 Foreword Terrain Proximity Limitations Sec 1 System Sec 2 PFD Sec 4 Hazard Avoidance Sec 3 MFD TERRAIN Proximity displays terrain and obstructions relative to the altitude of the aircraft. However, all obstructions may not be available in the database and data may be inaccurate. Never use this information for navigation or to maneuver to avoid obstacles. Terrain information is based on terrain elevation information in a database that may contain inaccuracies. Terrain information should be used as an aid to situational awareness. TERRAIN uses terrain and obstacle information supplied by government sources. The displayed information should never be understood as being allinclusive. NOTE: The data contained in the TERRAIN databases comes from government agencies. Garmin accurately processes and cross-validates the data but cannot guarantee the accuracy and completeness of the data. Sec 5 Additional Features 4. 2. 3 System Status The TERRAIN system continually monitors several system-critical items, such as database validity, hardware status, and GPS status. C 4. 3 terrain awareness and warning System (tawS-B) Optional Foreword Sec 1 System Sec 2 PFD Sec 3 MFD TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System) is an optional feature to increase situational awareness and aid in reducing controlled flight into terrain (CFIT). TAWS provides visual and aural annunciations when terrain and obstacles are within the given altitude threshold from the aircraft.
