Subject to errors and technical changes 28 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide 4. ! Damage due to reverse polarity or short-circuit Incorrect cable connections and short-circuits can seriously damage the unit. In order to avoid short-circuits and malfunctions, install the cables so that they cannot be pinched, kinked, chafed or detached. [. . . ] The Rear Seat Entertainment system can also be operated without AUX connection by using the headphones supplied. Connect the DVD player to the connection box using the corresponding connecting cable (N). Connect the connecting cable (L) to the screen unit (A). ! · ! · · Subject to errors and technical changes 35 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide 9. General information on installation of the screen in the vehicle Ideal installation position · The screen should be secured in the centre of the vehicle just behind the front seats to provide the vehicle occupants in the rear with the best possible view of the screen. When deciding on the best installation position, ensure that the screen is not a nuisance to the driver or does not obstruct his view either when open or closed. ! · Requirements for attachment in the vehicle Dead weight / vibrations / shocks The weight of the screen unit (A) including the mounting plate (C) is 1, 5 kg. To prevent severe vibrations affecting the screen under normal driving conditions and at the same time to ensure an unimpaired view, the screen must be secured to a frame part of the vehicle. Most vehicles have struts in the roof structure that usually run across the width of the vehicle. The roof structure is attached to these struts, which extend across the entire vehicle. These struts offer the most stable attachment for the screen unit (A). The mounting plate (C) supplied permits the screen to be attached to the struts in the roof structure. · · Subject to errors and technical changes 36 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide · If the struts are too far from the ideal installation location, an extension plate must be used to attach the mounting plate. Attachment points (at least 3 stable attachment points) · The mounting plate or the extension plate must be secured to at least two points of the vehicle's strut structure. This prevents longitudinal movements or lateral rotational movements of the screen when using the screen or folding it down. The third attachment secures the mounting plate when folding down the screen. This attachment can be made directly to the roof panel by installing the plates included in the installation kit as well as the double-sided adhesive tape. The plastic threaded rod included in the installation kit makes it easier to align the plate. · Vehicles with sunroof · · In vehicles equipped with a sunroof, the screen's mounting plate can usually be mounted directly on the struts to which the frame of the sunroof is also attached. In this case, an extension plate is only likely to be necessary for the third attachment to extend the mounting plate over the sunroof panel. It must be ensured that the attaching parts do not impair the movement of the sunroof or the sunroof panel. ! Subject to errors and technical changes 37 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide Preparing the vehicle headlining Removing the vehicle headlining or installing the RSE system with suspended vehicle headlining There are two possibilities for installing the screen unit (A): · or · Leaving the vehicle headlining in the vehicle and cutting out a large hole for the installation of the mounting plate. Pulling down the vehicle headlining and cutting out two small holes for attachment and the necessary cables Cutting small cut-outs in the vehicle headlining · The Rear Seat Entertainment system has been designed as an accessory that requires few conversion measures in the vehicle. If the vehicle headlining can be removed without damage and without great effort, only two small cut-outs need be cut in the vehicle headlining. Insert the needle through the vehicle headlining and push it as far as the support strut or the roof panel and then measure the distance. ! · · 10. 4 Removing the vehicle headlining If possible, remove the vehicle headlining completely and put it in a safe place. If it is not possible to remove the vehicle headlining completely because of wiring, for example, lower it far enough so that you can access the roof structure. ! Do not damage the vehicle headlining when installing the screen. Subject to errors and technical changes 41 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide 10. 5 Determining the central axis of the vehicle · Determine the central axis by measuring the width of the vehicle and mark its location so that the mounting plate (C) can be attached correctly. 10. 6 Aligning mounting plate to the support struts of the vehicle · The central axis of the mounting plate (C) is marked by a small notch. This notch must be aligned with the central axis marking in the vehicle (read the labels on the mounting plate). [. . . ] 17. 5 mm) onto the vehicle headlining. 10. 15 Cutting two small cut-outs in the vehicle headlining and securing cutting template · Cut the vehicle headlining carefully at the two marked locations along the markings. Subject to errors and technical changes 47 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide · Secure the template (H) for the cut-out by pressing the cylindrical part of the cutting template through the vehicle headlining onto the small suspension attachments. Secure the templates using a threaded nut. · 10. 16 Cutting two cut-outs in the vehicle headlining · Using the cutting template (H) cut out the larger cut-outs. Ensure that you remain in the area of the template. · Remove the cutting template. Remove the cut-out section of the vehicle headlining. Subject to errors and technical changes 48 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D-76303 Karlsbad Installation Guide 10. 17 Removing the cutting template from the mounting plate and pull the connecting cable through the cut-outs · Release the two M6 hexagon socket screws for the cutting template bracket and remove the bracket through the cut-outs in the vehicle headlining.
